What should I wear to my appointment?

Osteopathic Consults

  • Osteopaths perform a detailed physical examination of the body to identify the cause of the problem. Thus, you may be asked by the Osteopath to dress down to your underwear so please ensure you dress appropriately. Gowns are available to clients if they so choose to wear one.

What happens during my first appointment?

  • During the Initial Consultation, your Osteopath will take a detailed Case History including past medical history. • Your Osteopaths regard the body as a unit, therefore the examination may involve adjacent areas that may also be influencing your presenting complaint. Once your Osteopath is finished the physical examination he/she will discuss their diagnosis with you and outline a treatment plan
  • Treatment may include soft tissue massage, myofascial cupping, gentle joint manipulation, dry needling and ligament balancing techniques.
  • At the conclusion of your treatment, your Osteopath may also provide you with stretching, exercise or dietary advice to improve your bodies overall health and performance.
  • If your Osteopath believes further investigation is required, he/she may refer you appropriately.

How many treatments will I need?

  • The number of treatments required can vary greatly depending on the nature of the complaint. Some individuals only require a few (1 – 3) treatments, whereas other more chronic complaints will require more.
